I am participating in High Heels for High Hopes to support programs that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies and fund research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies.
Premature birth and its complications are the largest contributors to infant death in the U.S., and a major cause of long-term health problems in premature infants. In the U.S. pregnancy-related death has more than doubled in the past 25 years. In New Mexico, the preterm birth rate has reached a ten-year high, rising again in 2017 from 10.0 to 10.3 percent. In NM, 1 in 11 babies are born too soon. Texas also received a D rating for preterm birth rates within 10.4-11.4% during the past 10 years.
March of Dimes is tackling urgent maternal and infant health issues by using common sense approaches, such as expanding proven programs and innovative solutions to improve treatment and preventive care for moms and lower the preterm birth rate. By making a donation, you can help the March of Dimes help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.
The Annual High Heels for High Hopes show has become the premier fall fashion event in our region and we expect 600 guests and hope to raise $180,000 for the March of Dimes Foundation. This year’s theme is “A Night in New Orleans,” on Saturday November 16th at the Las Cruces Convention Center.
